Your District Helping Landowners

Forestry Programs Available

The NRCS, FSA, and MDA have a number of programs that assist landowners with Forest Conservation.

Some of these include:

  • NRCS cost-share funding to thin out forest strands so that the trees left will have more root space and sun.
  • NRCS cost-share to remove invasive species.
  • NRCS cost-share to plant wind buffers.
  • NRCS cost-share Golden-Winged Warbler program.
  • NRCS – WIP cost-share to plant trees, site preparation, and help with timber strand improvement
  • FSA – CREP – land rental payments to plant and keep forest buffers near streams.
  • MDA – Buffer Initiative – rental payments to plant and keep forest buffers near streams.

Forestry Management Plan

Landowners must have a Forestry Management Plan to participate in Forestry funding through NRCS.

Experts at the Garrett Soil Conservation District can help landowners complete a Forest Stewardship Plan free of charge and advise owners of programs that are applicable to the particular land tract.

To schedule a Forest Stewardship Plan, contact our office at 301-501-5886 or email will.gindlesberger@usda.gov.

Landowners could also obtain a Forest Stewardship Plan through the State DNR or a private conservationist, and if you qualify for funding through the NRCS or MDA, you could receive funds to assist with paying the costs. When you contact our office we will ask you your preference.
